Sarah Tayara is an Associate in the Litigation, Arbitration and Employment team at Hogan Lovells. She has extensive experience advising on high-value, complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes, arbitrations and enforcement proceedings, with a particular interest in matters arising in the Middle East and North Africa.
She has acted for States, State-owned entities and major multinational corporations in investor-State and commercial arbitrations across the energy, construction, defence and manufacturing sectors. She also represents clients in commercial litigation involving large-scale fraud and conspiracy claims.
Sarah has advised both businesses and government ministries on international economic law, including sanctions and trade law.
She also has experience in advocacy before international bodies, including the United Nations.
Representative experience
Acting for a Dutch state-owned bank in its successful Commercial Court claim for US$57mincluding obtaining worldwide freezing relief, proprietary injunctions and Chabra relief.
Acting for Ukraine in an ICSID arbitration under a Bilateral Investment Treaty.
Advising the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on international sanctions and trade law obligations.
Acting for a global listed company in an internal sanctions investigation into US$5 million in accounting misreporting.
Acting for a UK client in a claim concerning deceit, conspiracy, and fraud worth over £160 million.
Acting for a UK investor in an ICSID Additional Facility arbitration against the Republic of Poland under the Energy Charter Treaty.
Acting for a German investor in an ICSID arbitration against the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria under a Bilateral Investment Treaty.
Advising a global stock exchange on a large scale UK-Russia sanctions investigation.
